Safety First
All products used in the
Reinforced Plastics Industry (RPI) are dangerous and harm or
death can occur if the correct safety precautions are not
taken. Handling of all goods should be undertaken in a
safe, well-ventilated unencumbered work area. Safety equipment
should be used at all times; this includes, but is not limited
to Safety wrap around goggles, respirator to extract organic
chemicals and dusts, hair nets, protective gloves and
over-alls. Heed all warnings on product labels and do
not smoke or use open or naked flames around any RPI
product. Some chemicals produce
exothermic reactions (generate heat) and in some circumstances
(user error – or stupidity) can produce instantaneous
combustion. It is suggested that a suitable fire extinguisher
and a bucket of water be kept on hand for emergency
reasons. Keep all products away from
children. Keep all containers sealed tight when not in
use. Ask for a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) on
products you are using. The MSDS will provide the
following information: Chemical Identification, Hazardous
ingredients, Physical data, Fire and explosion data, Health
Hazard data, Reactivity data, Spill or leak procedures,
Special protection information and Special precautions. If poisoning does occur, follow any first aid
directions that may be on the product label; refer to the MSDS
hazardous ingredients and Health Hazard Data and phone a Doctor
or Poisons Information Centre on
