Wax in Styrene Wax in styrene uses Paraffin wax
(highly flammable) in a styrene monomer solution as an
additive for both resin and gel-coat. It must be added at the
correct temperature and the right concentration and well mixed
into the product.
|
|
The addition of wax in styrene will
remove the tacky or grab properties when the resin or gel-coat
has cured. Once added and cured, the resin can no longer
provide a suitable bond between laminations. Therefore the
resin surface must be rubbed back to provide a grip surface
for the next lamination. The addition of Wax in styrene to the
resin also reduces the styrene emissions (stink) from the
finished product.

Styrene
Monomer: Styrene monomer is water like looking
chemical used to reduce the viscosity while still retaining
thixotropic properties of polyester resin, flow-coat and
gel-coat. Styrene has a distinct pungent smell that
gives resin its distinct odour.

|
Care must be taken when using this product
as too much will cause unwanted viscosity and thixotropic
changes.
