Wax in Styrene
Wax in styrene uses Paraffin wax (highly flammable) in a styrene monomer solution as an additive for both resin and gel-coat. It must be added at the correct temperature and the right concentration and well mixed into the product.

The addition of wax in styrene will remove the tacky or grab properties when the resin or gel-coat has cured.  Once added and cured, the resin can no longer provide a suitable bond between laminations. Therefore the resin surface must be rubbed back to provide a grip surface for the next lamination. The addition of Wax in styrene to the resin also reduces the styrene emissions (stink) from the finished product.

Styrene Monomer:
Styrene monomer is water like looking chemical used to reduce the viscosity while still retaining thixotropic properties of polyester resin, flow-coat and gel-coat.  Styrene has a distinct pungent smell that gives resin its distinct odour.

Care must be taken when using this product as too much will cause unwanted viscosity and thixotropic changes.
